A Quiet Heart to Heart

Image
It's tough. Some parts of life are just difficult. Life is not always a bed of roses - sometimes it just feels like a vast expanse of mud. We all go through hard times and find ourselves feeling like we are the only one. The fact is that we're not. Sometimes the nature of our situations just leave us quiet - Quiet in our sorrow or fear or hurt or worry or need. And all the other people in our same situation are quiet, too. So it is unsurprising that we often feel alone and closed-off. For close to a year, my family has been going through a very difficult time which we have been quiet about. We are quiet for many reasons, which we feel are good reasons. The downside is that by being quiet, we have shut ourselves off from people who are going through the exact same thing. Sometimes it would be nice to just be reminded that we are not alone. While I don't plan on opening up any time soon about all my feelings in regards to the situation my family is currently in, I do rec...

Happy Independence Day!

Image
I'm so proud to be an American and so grateful for all that has been sacrificed by men and women throughout our history so that we could be free! Here is a video of our sweet daughter saying the Pledge of Allegiance! And here is a photo of our sweet son waving our flag! This is a photo of Ava and Landon with my Grandpa Hyatt who served in WWII. His father served in WWI and both of his brothers served and died in the Korean War. Landon with my Grandma Hyatt. Happy Independence Day!

Ava's Little Song to Jesus

Image
Ava is always singing and making up songs and drumming along. Sometimes she gets pretty loud, but I wouldn't have it any other way. I love to hear her little voice. Today, she came from her bedroom into the kitchen asking, "Mommy, did you hear my song? It's my little song to Jesus. I put my hand up to touch His hand.” Isn't that precious? And isn't that Scriptural! When I took a peek into her room, this is what I found... And here are the words to her "little song to Jesus" which she made up. With you, with you It's a wonderful day with God With you, with you It's a wonderful day with God With you, and me It's a wonderful day with my God So, the question begs to be asked... When is the last time you and I were so absorbed in God's presence that we sang a song from our heart to the Lord? Not a song you have heard on the radio or a song from a hymn book, but a song that comes from your heart and blesses the ears of the Lord? Guess ...

Are You a Smudge Stick?

Image
When I draw with charcoal, I use a smudge stick. It is actually properly called a "tortillion", but I have always called it a smudge stick. When rubbed on the charcoal, it smudges the black charcoal onto the paper and creates shades of gray. It can be used to fade harsh lines, and it's great for creating a gradual transition between black and white. You know, the Bible is full of priciples, morals, facts, and truths, that are simply black and white. They are clean-cut, matter-of-fact, just the way it is. I love knowing right from wrong. It makes life simple and makes decision-making a breeze. I think it's sad that we try to smudge the line between black and white to create a comfortable shade of gray in our own lives. We read one of God's truths in the Bible, but we tell ourselves that it isn't meant for us. God convicts our heart about something we have been doing but shouldn't and instead of immediately repenting, we listen to the advice of others. And...
