Passionate Youth Convention

Image
If there is anywhere that I most love to worship God, it is with sold-out Christian young people! They are the ones, on the whole, who seem to really understand what it is to worship God - setting aside self, opening their hearts, letting go, being transparent, glorifying God with everything . I was blessed to experience this worship at our Regional Youth Convention held May 5&6, 2006. Our young people supported this event by packing the house and coming ready to receive something great from God. We planned and directed the event, but the youth are the ones that made it successful. We planned the weekend to be all about the youth, but they came to make it all about God. BrokenBox led worship Friday evening and gave a concert that night. They did an incredible job as they ushered us into God's presence and set an example in worship and obedience to the Holy Spirit. Pastor Keith Wysong, from Springfield, Ohio, was the guest speaker. He hit home on both days as He brought God...

Salvation

What the Bible Says About Salvation: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; - Romans 3:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.  - Romans 6:23 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: - John 1:12 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. - Revelation 3:20 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. - 1 John 5:11-13 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us...

Worth Remembering

Image
The other day, I was flipping through a photo album of special moments I have spent with family and friends. I thought of how sad it would be if I had never experienced those moments. There certainly would not be a photo album to thumb through and revisit those memories. Our special times with Christ are collected in our being much like our experiences captured on film are collected in an album. Imagine your spiritual photo album. Imagine you are flipping through it. How empty or full is your album with special moments spent with God? We can't expect to fill our album if we do nothing. I would not have a snapshot of my vacation to Disney World if I never went to begin with. I would not have a snapshot of my wedding if I never said , "Yes, I'll marry you!" I would not have a snapshot of my best friend if I never made an effort to be a friend. In the same way, we cannot expect to experience great things with God, if we never do anything. We will not have a snapshot o...

Beauty in Change

Image
Have you ever been walking and noticed something of value in a puddle? Perhaps a shiny quarter peeking from a muddy puddle, for example? Usually we are not willing to stick our hand in the muddy water to get the quarter, are we? In our lives, when we face a change, we just see a muddy puddle that we don’t want to go through, while God sees the shiny reward at the bottom. Think about a current or future change in your own life…how do you feel about it…be honest. Chances are that you have some negative feelings toward that change. You may even have all negative feelings about that change. Most changes, even good ones, can have negative aspects associated with them that can grab a hold of you and turn a good change into one that makes you miserable. When I was first married, I left my family and everything else that was familiar in Kentucky to live in Montana with my new husband. That was a big change. Everything was new – my husband, apartment, church, job, town, friends - you name it. M...

Leading Worship 101

For those of you who lead worship on either a permanent or a temporary basis, I have some tips to share with you that I have learned over the years… Projecting song lyrics: For the easiest readability of slides or transparencies, 1) Left align text (don’t center it), 2) Use a bold, sans serif font (such as Arial Black), 3) Don’t use all capital letters (they are harder to read), 4) Use at least a 16 point font. Choosing songs: Keep in mind the message of the song you are choosing. For example, is the song all about heaven or all about God? Is it all about what we get or is it about who God is? The bottom line is this – when choosing a song, look at what the song is saying. Practice so you and everyone else can worship: Practicing can be a hassle, but God blesses a prepared servant who wants to give only their best to Him. Many worship leaders are so concerned about sounding good and hitting the right note and coming in on time, that they cannot worship, much less lead others. Practic...

My Profile

Image
GROWING UP   Born and raised in Kentucky, I experienced a very happy and fulfilled childhood in my Christian home with my dad, mom, and younger brother. It was made ever sweeter when I accepted Jesus Christ into my heart at the age of six, and He has been there ever since. I thank God that I came to know Him at such an early age and that I had a family faithful to Christ and devoted to bringing me up in Him. I grew up in the Church of God and Assemblies of God. Growing up in church afforded me many wonderful opportunities to learn about ministry and serve my Lord, such as through worshiping Him in singing, teaching, dramas, playing piano, and leading worship. EDUCATION In 2003, I graduated from University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Kentucky, with a bachelor's degree in Computer Information Systems, a minor in Art, and a second minor in Communication Arts. PROFESSIONAL * DieCast Direct, Frankfort, KY - Graphic Designer (1999-2000) * KY Transportation Cabinet, Frankf...
