Be Strong and Courageous. No, Really.

Image
There is SO MUCH study material in the verses of Scripture I have typed below, that I cannot even begin to do them justice in this post. So I won't try. Instead, I invite you to read these powerful verses for yourself and allow God's words to penetrate your own heart. At the end, is a video of a song by Paul Wilbur I would like to share with you. Check out the words Moses spoke to all of Israel and directly to Joshua... from Deuteronomy 31:1-8 1 Then Moses went out and spoke these words to all Israel: 2 “I am now a hundred and twenty years old and I am no longer able to lead you. The Lord has said to me, ‘You shall not cross the Jordan.’ 3 The Lord your God himself will cross over ahead of you. He will destroy these nations before you, and you will take possession of their land. Joshua also will cross over ahead of you, as the Lord said. 4 And the Lord will do to them what he did to Sihon and Og, the kings of the Amorites, whom he destroyed along with their land. 5 The ...

It's the Simple Things

Image
With these past two weeks of absolutely gorgeous weather, we have spent a lot of time outside in our backyard and taking walks. Our cheeks are sun-kissed and my children are sleeping longer than usual. (Yay! :) Following the incredible tragedy in Japan, I have been focusing on the simple things. I have been clearing my head of all the "hulla-bulloo" that we often find ourselves swimming in, and just appreciating my life and my family more. Sometimes it would be so nice to just disappear and suddenly show up at a relaxing resort with no responsibilities, a fresh clean room (with a maid!), no important decisions, and since we're only imagining... no bill, either! :) I haven't been to a resort for the last two weeks, but I have been conscientiously spending a little more time relaxing and enjoying the simple things - hot chocolate in my favorite tea cup, quiet 8:00 PM walks, sunshine, open windows, birds singing, and the list goes on. In the picture above, are some see...

Your Work is Noticed!

Image
Many times we pour our energy, time, or heart into things that don't leave us feeling very appreciated or thanked for our hard work, much less rewarded. Your supervisor may not recognize all the ways your work is benefiting the company; your spouse may not thank you for doing the seemingly minute, but important, tasks that keep your home running smoothly; your teachers may not understand the effort you are putting into your studies; your friends may not realize the sacrifice it took for you to do that something special for them. But God sees. He knows. And He honors your hard work. So, what is it that you do? Whatever it is, go ahead and give it all you've got, because your work is service rendered to the Lord! Somehow, knowing that makes everything more important, more worth the doing. "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward; it is the Lord Christ yo...

Quest to Bless - Older Women Admonishing the Young Women

Image
I would like to take some time to write on the subject of older women admonishing the young women, because I believe it is a subject that is very much overlooked in our churches or is simply glazed over as we become wrapped up in our daily lives. From what I have seen and experienced in the many churches and denominations where I have attended, participated, and served, I have found the relationship of older women to young women very much lacking in the areas that Paul speaks of in Titus (see image). I want to see obedience to this Scripture spread in churches everywhere, and I want to be part of the godly band of ladies who heed the words of Paul and make a difference in younger lives. And so, I am speaking to Christian ladies everywhere when I earnestly encourage you to please take Paul's words to heart and be a teacher of good things and admonish the young women in your life and in your church. You are needed! My mom did a superb job of raising and teaching me so...

Encouragement

Image
Encouragement. We love to get it. But how are we about giving it? We often wait for a holiday or a crisis or even death before we bring encouragement and thoughtfulness to others' lives. We also overlook the people who seem to be "doing good" and assume that they don't need encouragement. This week, let's throw those mentalities out the window and focus on being an encouragement right now to people who won't be expecting it. I would like to challenge you to take a few minutes each day for one week to encourage people in your life. Think of this walk-through as an exercise that will bless you and benefit many people whom you care about. Are you with me? Let's surprise some people with some encouragement! "I thank my God every time I remember you." - Philippians 1:3 Day 1:   Today, think of someone who you have been intending to drop a line for a while, but just haven't gotten around to it. Go ahead and do it today. Day 2:   Choose a person...
